Where ranching and wildlife conservation go hand-in-hand. Stock tanks are critical for supplying water to livestock and wildlife in the San Luis Valley. However, it is very common for birds and other small wildlife to become trapped within stock tanks and drown. Stock tank ladders are a practical solution to minimize wildlife drowning and water contamination risks!
The Center Conservation District partners with Sangre de Cristo FFA students to develop stock tank ladders for local ranchers. The design of our stock tank ladders prevents wildlife from becoming trapped under the ladder. The half-cone shape also provides a greater surface area for wildlife to grab onto and escape. The curved tops of the ladder encourage easy installation along the side of the tank.

*Please notice that many NRCS programs for ranching water infrastructure require the use of a stock tank ladder in each stock tank.
